Murphy Geospacial London Office | Environmental Headshots

Murphy Geospatial

"Murphy's captures, collates, verifies and governs geospatial data, providing critical surveys and data our clients need to work with confidence. We provide certainty through a combination of three core strengths namely; people, process and technology." - murphygs.com

Rebranding with Environmental Headshots

Murphy Surveys became Murphy Geospatial with new branding, websites and company policies to reflect their role in a fast paced, technology driven industry. With a new website, fresh website photography was needed, including some dynamic and eye catching employee environmental portraits. Environmental headshots are staff portraits taken in a more natural place than a photography studio e.g. at their desks, around the office or at an off site work location.

The Photoshoot

These environmental headshots were taken at each persons desk. Usually desk headshots are slightly disruptive during a normal working day as all desk surfaces are cleared, backgrounds are tidied and studio lighting is introduced to the offices space. However these environmental portraits were made easier with social distancing protocols in place. Employees were split into three groups (morning, lunchtime and afternoon) and asked to come in for specific time slots. With so many empty desks and meeting rooms, we were able to work quickly with minimal impact to those working in the London office.

New Lighting Set up

Peer behind the curtain of photographing headshots from a photographers perspective... Corporate portraits involve an array of studio lights, reflectors, grips, grids, stands and more. The set up can take time and become quite extensive and detailed, but once complete, taking each persons headshot requires only minimal tweaks. Changing this set up each time for environmental portraits creates multiple variables that we photographers like to control i.e. it's a challenge to make all the portraits look like a they belong together. Balancing the fluctuating light levels from office lights, ensuring a regular the light fall off and maintaining overall contrast  so these London office headshots remain consistent throughout the portraits.

Photographing Company Directors

Company director headshots are the most commonly used photographs by an organisation. Traditionally they publicly represent the company, making it prudent to spend a little more time photographing directors, MDs (below) and the sales team to make sure their image is most suitable to their target market. Colin (below) is the MD of Murphy Geospatial and regularly represents the company through public speaking and webinars.
