The Campaign

The brief was a complete set of Hotel photography following the rebranding and partial renovation of Voco Reading at the Madjeski Stadium. It follows the new working relationship between IHG and the Srivikorn Group.

Photographing in the hospitality industry adds an interesting additional challenge of creating images while a fully functioning hotel is in operation. Adhering to the needs of the guests, the brief, the hotel staff and sticking to the agreed times all adds a few extra layers of complexity to juggle during the photoshoot.

Hotel Video Production | Guest Experience

Video by Nick M & Simon C

IHG required a guest experience video for the Voco Reading Hotel. Creating a film in a working hotel needs careful planning. If not properly mapped out, it put enormous strain on the hotel staff and their resources. And with that I like to thank all the staff members at Voco Reading for their help, support and modelling! Captured over two days, we wanted to bring to life the five key areas that a guest could experience during their stay:

Check In | Spa & Leisure | Business | F&B | Private Dining

The aim was to create a single 1-2minute video with several mini stories about how the hotel can be used, so a potential gusts could envision the hotel catering to their needs for their stay. Including in the package was several mini videos, perfect for short, snappy social media posts that give a quick glimpse into life at Voco Reading.

Hotel Photographer: Capturing the Lobby

Hotel lobbies are an important feature of hotel photography. The first impressions sets the standard of how a guests or visitor will judge the hotel. Voco, an IHG brand, has clear guidelines on the look and feel that guests should experience which are taken into account during the photography. When photographing the lobby of Vodo Reading, it was important to capture the Voco styling as that's been so carefully curated by the branding team. Thankfully the lobby is beautifully lit, with  such large windows. The Voco branding is about textures and soft colours; a perfect combo for natural light.

Hotel Photography | Guest Experience

As part of the brief from IHG for Voco Reading, images of a guest checking were planned in. Including people in a photograph adds a an extra dimension and a richness from an added  layer of emotion and story. It can show a customer journey, the friendliness of the hospitality staff and give a perspective to the physical environment of a hotel. Plus (in my opinion) people in a photograph makes it nicer to look at.

Hotel Interior Photography: Exteriors & Drone

Photographing a hotel involves showing it in it's best light. Choosing the best time of day and the nicest weather all help a photograph more appealing to its viewer. The Voco Reading Hotel has an important place in a specific market; it's attached to a football stadium, surrounded by car parks, near a business park, adjacent to the M4 motorway. Fantastic features for hotel guests, but not the most aesthetically pleasing for photography. The exterior photographs must be a true representation of the hotel, but time was taken to make sure we found the hotels best angle.

Reading Hotel Photographer

Being a brand approved hotel photographer involves travel, visiting a variety of properties in numerous locations. For IHG there is regular travel outside my usual local market and suddenly being a London hotel photographer becomes a London + UK wide photographer. For this photoshoot, I am now a Reading Interior Photographer, specialising in being a Reading hotel photographer.

Being an IHG brand approved photographer suppliers means one thing: trust. Trust that the brand will be properly represented through the hotel photography and hotel video production. Being an IHG supplier is a stamp of approval; it demonstrates a confidence in the delivery of high quality content, in time and on budget to help market the hotel through various B2B and B2C channels.
