Rebranding with Fresh, Engaging Photography

Murphy Surveys became Murphy Geospatial, with new branding, websites and company policies. The brief was to capture fresh commercial photography that reflects their role in a fast paced, technology driven industry. The style and approach was for dynamic and eye catching photographs of Murphy employees carrying out their duties.

The Photoshoot

Two Days Photography | 5 London Locations

The photographs were a combination of environmental portraits of the employees, with commercial images of the services that Murphy provides. The services  predominantly revolved around the more cutting edge technology that is used by Murphy Geospacial. On site we had tens of thousands of pounds of equipment, surrounded by building works or the general public and the interesting British weather - all in a days photography work!

Location 1: The Building Site

Co-ordinating large photoshoots is tricky enough with multiple parties and moving parts. Photographing on a large, industrial scale, multi-building building site in London adds an entirely new element of health and safety for everybody on site. While it's not solely the photographers responsibility to keep everybody safe, we are directing the days activities. Ensuring we have a full site visit and a supervised scouting introduction by the site manager gives us opportunities to ask questions about where, when and how we're allowed to photograph at the location.

The building site in question is Good Luck Hope in East London, found between the East India Dock Basin and River Lea, all across the Thames from the O2 Arena.

Location 2: The Built Environment | Central London

Murphy conducts a large proportion of their business in major cities across the UK and Ireland. To ensure the photographs work in both countries, we tried to keep the image backdrops generic enough that these commercial London photographs could also be used in Irish marketing collateral. To some it may be obvious these photoshoots took place in London, particularly to other London photographers! But would a Newcastle business know this wasn't Glasgow? Or Manchester?

Location 3. Interior London Building Site

Murphy Geospacial offer multiple interior services that were captured in a recently completed London building site. These ranged from final build stage surveying to mapping existing pipelines/cabling. Thankfully senior Murphy engineers were on set to help set up various demonstration scenarios that may occur in the field. For any surveyors reading this, my apologies! This description of your work has woefully underestimated the complexity and nuance of your industry expertise!

Location 4. London Park for Commercial Photography

We chose a London park near to the Murphy offices in North London for our external photography that covered services out in the public. A loose term for our collection of services that don't take place in or around building sites or in an urban environment. Photographing in a public park has a few fun logistical issues to contend with; the general public and the British weather being the predominant spanners in the works. Thankfully an early morning start gave us the best of the weather, with only a few sunrise joggers to work around. We captured multiple set ups, creating as much corporate photography as possible in the allotted time.

Location 5. A London Rooftop

A final set of images were to show employees working closely together; a few snaps on a rooftop that could be used in a recruitment push or a social media collateral.
